Royal Racing Heritage jersey

With its baseball shirt styling and grey/black colour combo, the Heritage jersey looks the part off the bike and, for the non-hefty price tag of $45, turns in a good performance on it too. Most of that is down to the fit – it’s easy to move in without being too baggy and was long enough for even our tallest testers. The fabric is what we’d expect for the money – a standard wicking type. But the taped backof- neck seam is something usually only found on pricier jerseys and, if you’ve worn tops with lumpy seams or sharp-edged labels, you’ll know what a bonus this is. Our only concern with this jersey is that the logo print is sticky from new and we’re not sure how long it’ll survive bad laundry practice, but overall this is a good basic option at an affordable price. Price $45

Royal Racing Impact shorts

The Impacts are Royal’s top-of-the-line trail shorts. Being both lightweight and ventilated, they’re ideal for summer missions at home and abroad. Made of four-way stretch fabric, they don’t inhibit movement in the slightest, and laserperforated front and rear panels give great airflow. The 33cm (13in) inseam on the medium size covered the tops of our knee pads nicely. What we don’t like about these shorts is the cut. The legs are square and boxy, which makes the Impacts look and feel too baggy. There’s no danger of them falling down, though, thanks to the clip and twin-popper front closure and chunky Velcro waistband tabs. Four zipped pockets provide plenty of storage and they’re positioned high up, so the contents don’t bang about on your thighs when pedalling. Colour wise, they come in black, orange or ‘sand’ – the greenish khaki colour seen here, which we think looks pretty cool. Price $135

Royal Racing Matrix jacket

This was the heaviest jacket on test and noticeably so, but in a superprotective way rather than being restrictive. The fit is really very good – when you move your arms, even over your head, the body of the jacket doesn’t shift around. This, combined with a good length through the back, means no cold patches and makes it a solid cold-weather choice, especially as there’s room to layer up underneath. It’s warm during sustained pedalling efforts though, and the lack of vents means you need to wear a decent-wicking baselayer. The hood fits over a helmet, but it’s a snug fit, so has a tendency to pull. Overall, the fit of the body is so good that it’s a shame that the fabric isn’t more breathable or there aren’t some vents, but it’s a decent price for the durability and protection that it affords. Royal Racing Dart jersey

AT JUST A smidge und er 35$, Roya l's new Dart jersey packs quite a punch, not only offering a nice, simple, casual look but delivering technically too.

Royal Racing Core gloves

SO GOOD It’s hard not to like the price of the Cores, and they come in five sizes. We’re big fans of the minimalist styling too. The palm is nice and thin, allowing you to really feel your grips, and it doesn’t bunch up when gripping the bar. The meshed back means they stay nice and cool during the summer months. The cuffless wrists are really comfy and offer an unrestricted feel.

Royal Turbulence LS jersey

The Turbulence has a generous cut, but well-shaped shoulders mean that when you move, the jersey doesn’t get pulled in all directions with you, making it comfortable to ride in.
